Among Us Full Review: Story, Game play, Graphics & More

Among Us Mobile was my very first experience with the game, and I made up my mind to play just one match before going to sleep. Two hours later, I was desperately trying to prove innocent players that I am not an Impostor. You definitely understand me if you have been once voted out despite your absolute innocence in the game.

I have been playing this game using both Android and PC versions, but the mobile edition of Among Us has become my choice because it is very convenient for instant access anytime. You will easily find some time when waiting for someone, traveling somewhere or resting at home to enjoy this game of laughs, fights and celebration during 10 minutes.

So, if you are interested in my experience of playing Among Us Mobile, then read below.

What Is Among Us Mobile?

Among Us Mobile is a multiplayer online social deduction video game created by Innersloth. This is not an action game where you shoot at enemies or collect powerful weapons. Your observation skills, communication, teamwork, and the ability to lie will come in handy.

The game includes 4 to 15 players per round.

Each participant gets assigned one of two roles:

Crewmate

Impostor

Crewmates perform tasks and find Impostors.

Impostors kill Crewmates and pretend to perform tasks.

It looks easy, but each game is different because everything depends on the unpredictable actions of real people.

Story

Among Us does not have a conventional story mode with missions and cutscenes.

Each game becomes a story on its own.

In one game, you can play against a smart Impostor that will fool all participants before the voting.

In another game, you will lose as soon as someone vents right in front of another player.

This unpredictability is the reason why it is so captivating.

Sometimes, all the participants will trust you for completing the visual task, and other times, you will be voted out immediately just because "someone felt it".

These are stories of Among Us Mobile.

Game play

The game play is extremely simple to comprehend but hard to master.

Playing as a Crewmate

If you are a Crewmate, here are your objectives:

Perform all assigned tasks.

Detect dead bodies.

Participate in emergency meetings.

Discus suspicious behavior.

Voting out Impostors.

Tasks are like small games.

Here are some examples:

Repairing electrical wires

Downloading data

Fueling engines

Card swiping

Dumping garbage

Aligning engines

The tasks require several seconds but performing tasks while keeping an eye on everybody else creates continuous tension.

Playing as an Impostor

Playing as an Impostor is a totally different game.

The objectives are:

Impersonate working Crewmate

Sabotage systems

Shutting the doors

Kill Crewmates

Blend in with others

Avoid detection

At first, I played the role of an Impostor by making that mistake that most beginner Impostors make, which is standing still for too long. Others detected me immediately.

But eventually, I learned how to pretend doing tasks in a natural manner, moving with a group of people and providing convincing explanations in the meetings.

It was then when the game became more interesting.

Controls

Controls of Among Us Mobile are unexpectedly comfortable to use by touching.

They include:

Virtual joystick

Action button

Kill button (Impostor only)

Report button

Use button

Sabotage menu

Everything is conveniently placed at hand.

Even for smaller screens, I did not feel that controls obstructed my gameplay in any way.

Graphics

Do not hope to see anything realistic here.

This game utilizes the cartoon style of graphics.

The characters are tiny astronauts with rather simple animations.

First of all, I was disappointed in the level of graphics since it seemed too basic.

But after playing a few matches, I understood that simplicity is its strong point.

Thanks to simple and not overloaded graphics, you can easily track movements, actions and other important things players do.

Sound and Music

The soundtrack is very simple.

All the suspense comes from silence.

You will mostly hear:

Footsteps

Sounds of tasks

Emergency meeting sound

Sabotage alerts

Voting music

The emergency meeting sound will always draw my attention.

Listening to the game using headphones makes it a much better experience since you can notice audio clues much better.

Maps

Among Us Mobile has several maps.

The Skeld

The first spaceship map.

Great for new players.

It has a simple design and balanced gameplay.

MIRA HQ

An office building with long corridors and vents that are unique.

More awareness is needed here.

Polus

A big research station in snow.

It allows more freedom.

The Airship

The largest map in Among Us.

Has many spawn points after emergency meetings.

Online Multiplayer Experience

Here’s where Among Us succeeds.

When playing with random people, it becomes highly entertaining.

There are instances when you will come across people who scrutinize every clue.

Or sometimes there is someone who makes decisions just through intuition.

Playing among friends through the voice chat is even better.

All talks become loud, funnier, and very competitive.

The most enjoyable games are those where no one trusts each other by the end of the game.

Customization

Among Us allows customization of your player character.

You can either unlock or buy:

Hats

Pets

Skins

Nameplates

Visors

Cosmic Cubes

Colours

There are no benefits to game play in these cosmetics.

Performance

I played Among Us Mobile on a budget and mid-range phone.

On a budget phone

Smooth play

Fast loading time

Consistent frame rate

Sometimes lag if internet is poor

On a mid-range phone

Exceptionally smooth performance

Quick matchmaking

Improved responsiveness

The game does not require advanced equipment.

This is one of the reasons it is so popular.

Internet Connection

Among Us Mobile requires an internet connection to play online.

A stable Wi-Fi connection provides the best results.

Mobile data will work fine as long as your connection is good.

Poor internet connection will result in:

Lagging movement

Disconnections

Slow voting

Matchmaking issues

Suggestions for Beginners

Here are some suggestions for beginners:

Move quickly through tasks

Standing in one place is suspicious.

Look at other players' moves

Many Impostors expose themselves through their strange moves rather than through obvious errors.

Don't make any claims without evidence

Such actions usually do not help you.

Tell precisely what you saw.

Get to know each map by heart

The knowledge of room names helps in emergency meetings.

You can say "Electrical" instead of "near the door".

It will provide much more information.

Be calm

Whether you are an innocent or a guilty person, panicking usually gets you voted off.

Common Mistakes Made By New Players

I made most of those mistakes in the beginning.

Following another player everywhere

This action could make both of you suspicious.

Neglecting tasks

Sometimes crewmates are too busy observing someone else.

The task must still be completed.

Saying a lot

Too long explanations usually sound false.

Speak clearly and factually.

Immediate voting

Wait until you read all the messages of other people.

Forgetting about sabotage

Many new Impostors care only about getting rid of other players.

The use of sabotage creates many more possibilities.

Which People Should Play Among Us Mobile Game?

You would likely enjoy Among Us if you like:

Strategy Games

Mystery Games

Competitive Multiplayer Games

Games Requiring Teamwork

Bluffing Games

Casual Mobile Games

People who love fast-paced shooting and racing games might find Among Us slow for them. But if you love brain games and interpreting people’s behavior, you would certainly love it.

Is Among Us Mobile Game Worth It?

Yes, definitely. The mobile version of Among Us is definitely worth trying if you like strategic, tactical, and fast-thinking games as opposed to games that require quick reactions. No game is going to be alike since you will be playing with actual people each time you play. The game does not need a lot of hardware capabilities and works perfectly fine on both Android and iOS devices. You can easily learn the game even if it is your first time playing. Although there can be some toxic users or those who leave a game too soon in case you join a public lobby, it is always more enjoyable to play with your friends.
